l have used fatwood sticks while backpacking the Pacific Crest Tail from California to Canada. They make it very easy to start a fire. Hand cut in the seaside village of Ventura, Ca.
Fatwood has been use for 100's of years to start fires. Naturally soaked in the trees resin. No chemicals used here, non toxic safe to handle. Ignites instantly burns very hot. Cut from dead pine stumps left after logging, we never cut live trees. Use to start a fire anywhere, camp fires, wood stoves. This fire starting tin set is really good in my opinion, well worth the money. All the items are quality products, the knife is durable and sharp, the metal scraper is thick and wont bend when using. The fat wood sticks are of good quality, you can smell the pine scent from them. I saw some reviews say the metal tin itself is flimsy or cheap but you can definitely use it for one of those bug out bag tin kits. All in all its definitely worth it. D.W.
Cool package for my boyscout. All the stuff is top notch. The knife is sharp and everything is exactly as described. The only complaint and it's not really a complaint because there isn't anything that could be done is that the box doesn't lay flat because of all the stuff in it. I'm ok with that. The strap that comes with it works very well in holding it all together. Alex
I have purchased photography items from Steve in the past with very satisfied results on the completeness of the package deal. While looking for primitive fire starting kits, I purchased a few from other vendors and they were mediocre at best. I saw this pop up on my purchase suggestions and bought 2 right away, knowing how complete Steve's items are. I bought one each for my buddy and I. I have to say Steve does not disappoint. The fatwood was fresh and smelled wonderful. The fatwood dust was also very fresh. The ferro rod works great and I like that everything fits neatly in an oversize tin that fits into my Condor Molle gadget pouch on my pack. There was one tiny glitch that Steve took care of promptly. One of the kits was missing the small knife. He shipped the missing piece in time for my outing with my buddy. The fire started relatively quickly with the addition of some frayed rope. P.H.
